The name, Joyndolls was formed in the year 2000 when I sat down at my desk to try and find an e-bay name that was not in use describing what I love to do. So I came up with JOYNDOLLS as a name that said "hey my name is Joy and I love dolls."
My love of dolls really did not start until my adulthood when I found my childhood doll; monkeys face Chatty Charmin on a website. That a memorial moment to pull her string and hear that voice that I had not heard for over 40 years. The memory takes you back to a time when there was no worry in life and all you had to think about, what to play with next.
After that I was hooked, I started surfing the Internet and found E-bay and more Charmin's and then I found her sister Chatty Cathy. I told myself that I would just buy one or two Chatty Cathy's and that would be it. But as you can see it did not stop there.
As I learned more about Chatty Cathy, I could tell that no two were dolls were alike even if they were made the same year with the same color of hair. A non-collector sure cannot understand why you have so many of the "same" doll and still be sitting at the computer late at night fighting for another doll just like the other 100's you already have. They just do not know what draws us to this doll and sure do not know what they are missing.
When I met Pete, I had over 100 Chatty Cathy's, around 30 Charmin's, maybe 25 to 30 Chatty babies and Tiny Chatty babies. Pete had never seen a Chatty Cathy or even heard about her until he had seen mine. One day the mail ran and Pete had been laid off from work he was there to get the doll. In the box was a Chatty Cathy with the number 5 speaker with her torso open on both sides. As Pete peeked inside the box he said "I think I can fix that!”. A few years before I had purchased a Chatty Cathy repair video that they sold on e-Bay so I handed that to him with the O ring, then he disappeared for a couple hours. He came back with a smile on his face and a talking doll. That is just the first and easiest step in the Chatty repair, for the next few months we looked everywhere buying different products to see how to seal up Chatty Cathy correctly. The video did not show how to seal a doll with chemicals, but with a glue gun. We went to the auto stores and purchased car body bond to try to seal my Tiny Chatty Cathy's. It was orange so we also bought flesh color paint to paint the side of the doll, it did not work either. We finally found what we thought was the right product and we had to prefect our technique of sealing the doll without the seams showing.
We have been working on dolls 5 years now and still we are learning more about her every day.
To sum up who is JOYNDOLLS?
Joyndolls is Pete Boucher, a very sweet 60 some odd years "old guy" who loves Chatty Cathy as much as I do.
